Jayalaitha aide to take over as Tamil Nadu chief minister

Tamil Nadu Governor Vidhya Sagar Rao on February 6 accepted the resignation of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam a day after he put his papers down.

Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam proposed her name in the MLAs' meeting and she was unanimously elected as the Legislature party leader.

She was a long-time friend of former party general secretary J Jayalalithaa, but that does not mean that she is capable of leading the State, says Masilamani, a resident of Tiruvanamalai and an ardent supporter of AIADMK.

If found guilty, she may not be able to contest an assembly by-election to become a lawmaker, which she would be required to do within six months in order to continue as chief minister.

Earlier, Rajya Sabha MP Sasikala Pushpa and AIADMK leader K.C. Palaniswamy complained to the Election Commission (EC) that Sasikala's appointment as the party's interim general secretary had been carried out in an undemocratic manner. "What they have done, what report I get, is unacceptable to most people of Tamil Nadu", Chidambaram said in an interview to India Today news channel.

The apex court had, last year, reserved its verdict in the Jayalalithaa's decade old case for three months.

Sasikala's influence over Jayalalitha also became the source of intense media speculation and tabloid gossip. This is the third time he steps down from the post.

The crowd - full of Swift's fans 18 and over - roared loudly, in hopes Zayn would appear. Little Big Town revealed that Swift was the writer of " Better Man " last November.

In 2011, Ms Sasikala and her husband M. Natarajan were expelled from the party.

Sofia Ashraf, 29, posted a Facebook live video of her singing a song, My Vote Is Not For You, in front of the new chief minister's residence. Many party members are apprehensive about the roles Sasikala's family members may assume after she becomes the chief minister.

"He had been appointed twice as Chief Minister by Amma".

However, reactions to her elevation were mostly negative.

"She may try to emulate the image of Amma through her makeover, but she can not garner the support", said an AIADMK member from Mannargudi- Sasikala's home town.

Ms Sasikala was the one managing party affairs during Ms Jayalalithaa's illness.
