Dontari Poe adds run stopping prowess to young Falcons defense

Free agent defensive tackle Dontari Poe, who visited the Dolphins on Wednesday, agreed to terms with Atlanta on a one-year contract today, the Falcons announced. Scott Pioli, who was the general manager back in 2012 when Poe was drafted, is the assistant general manager down in Atlanta, so this move makes ideal sense.

"Poe is an athletic, big guy that can push the pocket", Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff said in a statement Thursday, via Atlanta's team website.

Poe passed up on the Jaguars fully guaranteed $9 million deal to instead sign with the Falcons for $8 million, so he obviously preferred the situation that the Falcons and Dan Quinn offered over the Jaguars. Poe is used to this by now.

Amid the tussle between Rutte and Wilders, numerous 12.9 million eligible voters had been wavering between the 28 parties running. Some polls had put the Party for Freedom neck-and-neck with the centre-right People's Party for Freedom and Democracy ( VVD ).

Poe is viewed as a run-stuffing defensive tackle which is much needed on this Dolphins defense.

Poe, who has a history of back injuries, was deemed expendable and visited multiple teams during a lengthy free agent tour. His most productive seasons came in 2013 (51 tackles, 4 1/2 sacks and seven hurries in 975 snaps) and 2014 (45 tackles, six sacks and eight hurries in 944 snaps). Poe was regarded among the NFL's best pass-rushing interior defensive line for the first three years of his career.

Appearing in all 16 regular season games in what would become his final-round as a member of the Chiefs, Poe registered 27 total tackles and 1.5 sacks in 2016-2017. "He will add to our defensive line group and will mix nicely with Beasley, Jarrett, (Derrick) Shelby and Clayborn".
