Fashion House Givenchy Has A New Artistic Director

In its 65 years of existence, the house of Givenchy - a brand known for its women's wear - has never had a woman at its helm.

French fashion house Givenchy said on Thursday it had named British designer Clare Waight Keller as its new artistic director. Clare will be responsible for the house's women and men's ready-to-wear and accessories collections, and of course haute couture.

Formerly of ChloƩ, where she established an easy, romantic vision for the brand during her six years as its creative lead, Waight Keller would most likely take Givenchy in a more feminine direction compared to its dark, gothic period under Tisci. The designer will be Givenchy's first female creative director and is scheduled to begin May 2, marking the end of her 6-year tenure at ChloƩ. Waight Keller, on the other hand, is much more slouchy-comfy-cool girl. Signature designs include designer tracksuits, oversized frills and '70s-inspired prints. How does it compare to Riccardo Tisci's Givenchy.

She takes over in May from star designer Riccardo Tisci, who is credited with reviving Givenchy by cultivating links with a long line of celebrities including singers Beyonce and Madonna and rapper Kanye West and his wife, reality television star Kim Kardashian. "By exploring our Maison's 65-year heritage and the outstanding savoir faire of its Ateliers, I am convinced Clare will help Givenchy reach its full potential".

Trump OKs changes in GOP health care bill, winning support
President Trump said Friday that he successfully wooed 13 members of the RSC at a White House meeting on the proposal's support. Ryan backed away Wednesday from his previous rhetoric of calling the measure's fate a "binary choice" for Republican lawmakers.

Waight Keller is well aware of the Givenchy legacy.

"I am very happy to have Clare Waight Keller join the LVMH group", Bernard Arnault, the chairman and CEO of LVMH, said in the statement.

Waight Keller will present her debut collection for Givenchy in Paris this October for spring/summer '18.
