Golovkin hungry for Canelo fight

Gennady Golovkin was taken the distance for the first time since 2008 but earned a unanimous decision over Daniel Jacobs on Saturday to retain his middleweight belts.

Golovkin was effusive in his praise for Jacobs.

Nonetheless Golovkin sent Jacobs to the canvas in round four with two rapid fire overhand rights on his way to a 115-112, 115-112, 114-113 victory on the judges' scorecards.

Jacobs did not go quietly during the middle rounds.

MY TAKE. I like Jacobs early and Golovkin late.

Golovkin is a terrific fighter but that elusive iconic gown is back on the hanger and back in the wardrobe, which is probably somewhere in the basement under the faded The Garden.

Only time will tell if the mega fight would come to fruition as both the boxing fraternity as well as the fans across the globe closely monitor the progress regarding the fight happening in the coming months.

He wants to show he's the best. Looks good in his last fights. There have been some criticisms about some of the opponents on his résumé, but it's certainly not anything to do with our side. All we can do is make offers. It was a close fight and many felt that Gonzalez, who came in with a 46-0 record, could have gotten the nod. Hopefully, Alvarez holds up his end of the bargain in May against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and his promoter Oscar de la Hoya doesn't tuck his head between his legs. Golovkin, a native of Kazakhstan, has knocked out 23 opponents in a row.

Guessing game over! Yogi Adityanath will be next UP CM
Apart from him, the other name that was speculated to be the chief minister was of BJP's prominent Hindutva force Yogi Adityanath. Although Poorvanchal is Adityanath's bastion, he was used as one of the prime star-campaigners by BJP in western UP as well.

CBS Sports will update this story shortly.

Up next could be a much-heralded bout with Canelo Alvarez, though Golovkin said he'd be willing to give Jacobs a rematch. Fighters have a hard time keeping focus when they something bigger is looming on the horizon. It will not be simple though given his rival, Gennady Golovkin, famously known as the GGG, is the best boxer at the moment.

There was a good response from Golovkin in the ensuing rounds, but Jacobs continued to defend well and when he let his hands go, Golovkin doesn't do much to respond.

"Both guys are well aware of the other and the questions- Golovkin will know that people said: 'if Jacobs lands the shots Brook did what will happen?' And Jacobs knows Golovkin can whack with both hands".

Daniel Jacobs will face Gennady Golovkin on March, 18 Saturday.

Nearly certainly, after such a close fight with Jacobs, there will be a rematch somewhere down the line. Jacobs got up and was eager to get going and fought back at the end of the round.

"I wasn't thinking that I needed the 12th round to win the fight", he said, per Rafael. "I needed a quality fight, not just the 12 rounds".

It might seem harsh to be critical of Golovkin for not finishing Jacobs's then and there, but the Kazakh hero has been saturated in praise, draped in the same gown that fit so majestically across the broad shoulders of greats like Carlos Monzon and Marvin Hagler, the sport's finest middleweights. "I won the fight and I won the decision, and all I can do is be gracious in the decision".
