Blizzard dropped the news alongside a featurette on the making of the hero, as well as some of the inspirations behind her. "So we hope that in Orisa, there is now another option to do a low-mobility tank but one that brings a high amount of protection in her protective barrier".

Orisa was announced in early March following months of build-up, before being introduced to the game's public test server (PTS) to allow the developers at Blizzard to tweak her weapons and abilities as to keep the larger game balanced.

Along with the announcement, Blizzard released a video showing how it came up with Orisa's design.
