Tim Allen's Germany-Hollywood Comparison: What He Really Said

Comedian Tim Allen said being a Republican in Hollywood can be hard because the majority of people in show business tend to be staunchly liberal.

Allen, who hesitated before confessing he attended Trump's inauguration, is one of the few celebrities in Hollywood who has been outspoken about his conservative views.

Allen, who provided the voice of Buzz Lightyear in the Toy Story animations, also described attending President Donald Trump's inauguration in January - an event that was boycotted by entertainers including Celine Dion and British stars Elton John and Charlotte Church.

"I was invited, we did a VIP thing for the vets, and went to a veterans ball, so I went to go see Democrats and Republicans", he said defensively.

"I don't know what happened", Allen, 63, continued.

He said he knew a handful of people in the entertainment industry who are conservative but refuse to tell anyone for fear of retaliation, saying if anyone in Hollywood "finds out you support Trump at all, it's like you smell bad".

Allen has also previously spoken out against how he believes Hollywood treats conservatives. "I've never been to anything like that".

It's tough out there for a Republican actor, according to Tim Allen.

Allen is often called upon to comment on political issues. "He says a lot of stupid stuff but what he can do, he should do". "I don't want to defend the guy", he said.

"But if you had any kind of inkling that you were for Trump, you got bullied for doing that". "Before he gets rid of Sesame Street, I think we should make the president watch it a couple of times".
