Good Friday Way of the Cross walk honors Jesus' journey before crucifixion

Friday's procession commemorated the Via Dolorosa, or the path Jesus Christ took to the cross, and began at noon at St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church. The event took followers through Girard Park, and was followed by Good Friday services in the Church as soon as it was complete.

Many across the Tri-State area will mark Good Friday, the most solemn day on the Christian calendar, by participating in Stations of the Cross processions.

Carmelo Riccardo Tringalli - a Catholic from Sydney - said it was his first Good Friday procession in Melbourne for some time.

Perform works of mercy for the people around us, especially with those who are in need.

"Say many "acts of thanksgiving to Jesus for His love and self-giving, dying on the Cross, in order to save us.

"I'm not one who believes one denomination is superior to others", Toles said.
