Honda's new electric auto can go an incredible 80 miles!

Honda's Clarity Fuel Cell will soon be joined by plug-in hybrid and battery-electric variants.

Honda unveiled the Plug-in and total electric versions of Clarity in the 2017 New York International Auto Show.

But Honda realizes that people aren't keen on hydrogen-powered cars yet. While a lot of specifications aren't yet solidified, Honda expects the PHEV to have an all-electric range of 68 kilometres, which the company says is the longest of any plug-in hybrid in the intermediate segment. The Clarity Electric will launch later this year, starting with an attractive lease program in California and Oregon. Pricing for the new versions has not been announced. Furthermore, while the Clarity Electric is competitive with the Fiat 500e (84 miles), the Nissan Leaf (107 miles), BMW i3 (114 miles), Ford Focus Electric (115 miles), Hyundai Ioniq Electric (124 miles), and Volkswagen e-Golf (125 miles) all can potentially go much longer between charges.

The customers are able to choose from fuel cell variant, electrified variant, and plug-in hybrid variant.

The Clarity Electric is likely to be sold only in California and the other states that have adopted its stricter emission rules, including its mandate for sales of certain numbers of zero-emission vehicles.

Democrats seek to resolve health payments on spending bill
Don't think so? Just look more closely at what's already happening even with Uncle Sam shelling out all that subsidy money. We have not been contacted by Democrats to save Obamacare, perhaps because they consider Obamacare to be a losing cause.

The PHEV comes in two trim levels, standard and Touring, while the EV has one grade.

Both models offer three driving modes called Normal, Econ, and Sport, respectively, while the hybrid lets the driver save the battery's full charge for later. The Electric is expected to earn a 111-MPGe rating, but Honda hasn't revealed how far it can drive before the battery runs out of juice. By comparison, the smaller 2017 Chevrolet Volt is rated at 53 miles before the gasoline engine must kick in, while the mid-size Kia Optima plug-in hybrid is EPA-rated for 29 miles.

In terms of performance, the Clarity PHEV's 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine and electric motor combine for 181-horsepower and 232 pound-feet of torque.

Charging the battery takes 2.5 hours on a 240V supply, and Honda is predicting a 105 MPGe rating from the EPA. (The Clarity can travel for an EPA-estimated 366 miles on a fill-up.) Second, when they do need to fill up, it only takes a few minutes, not the hours it can take to charge an electric vehicle. Your mileage will vary depending on driving conditions, how you drive and maintain your vehicle, battery-pack age/condition, and other factors.

The EV's AC electric motor matches the fuel-cell car's 221 lb-ft of torque but is down 13 horsepower, to 161. Honda promises comfortable seating for five adults; premium, environmentally responsible materials; and a smooth, quiet and refined driving experience.
