More than 21000 expected at Trump's first Easter Egg Roll

Despite reports over the past few months speculating otherwise, the first lady will join President Donald Trump in the White House after their son, Barron, completes his school year. According to POLITICO, the White House had a late start in planning the annual festivity, which is the Trump administration's first big public event.

The Easter Egg Roll at the White House, on the day after Easter, has a long tradition dating back to 1878. "So thank you, everybody, for being here".

Though this year's Easter Egg Roll was smaller than last year's, which drew more than 30,000 attendees, Stephanie Grisham, spokeswoman for first lady Melania Trump, told The Washington Post that was by design.

Mr and Mrs Trump were joined on the balcony of the White House on Monday (local time) by son Barron, 11, Gunnery Sergeant Sara Sheffield and the Easter Bunny.

There had been some speculation that there wouldn't be an Easter Egg Roll this year, but the Trumps said they were excited to "continue the traditions of the past while weaving new traditions into the fabric of our Nation's history". 'We wish you great fun, and a handsome day is coming ahead of us'.

Entertainment this year included military bands, as well as Martin Family Circus and boy band Bro4.

As seen in the photo above, it was Monday, April 17, when President Trump, Melania and Barron stood with their hands atop their hearts as the "Star Spangled Banner," the National Anthem of the USA, was played.

Trump commented that the children invited to take part in the event were "highly, highly competitive".

Melania and Donald Trump were super-cute at the Easter Egg Roll. "I hope you have a great time, with many activities", Melania Trump said.

A total of some 18,000 Easter eggs were made available to the kids, however, by the White House.

"On behalf of the president and (our son) Barron, we wish you great fun and attractive days coming ahead of us", Xinhua news agency quoted the first lady as saying.
