US sends dozens of troops to Somalia, 1st time in decades

The group has been staging numerous attacks in Somalia in an attempt to create an Islamic state ruled by Sharia law.

Dozens of U.S. troops have been deployed to Somalia to provide training support in their counter-terrorist operations, according to a USA military official, as Mogadishu ramps up its operations against the al-Qaeda affiliated al-Shabaab group.

This month marks 10 years since the AU Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) started.
