Vidya Balan's Begum Jaan gets banned in Pakistan

Vidya Balan starrer Begum Jaan has finally released today at the Box Office. A band of women armed with rifles is fiercely defending its shelter, a brothel, which figures as the bone of contention in partitioning India and Pakistan in undivided Punjab.

The story line of Begum Jaan is set in the 1947 partition era, where along with India gaining freedom from the Brits, the rulers which descended from the medieval royal families are rapidly losing importance and the idea of a formal government is something that all the country men are getting used to. Vidya Balan plays the eponymous protagonist with a Frida Kahlo-esque unibrow and a volatile personality to match.

If Vidya Balan is the showstopper of Begum Jaan, Gauahar Khan, Chunkey Pandey and Sumit Nijhawan are her most worthy partners. "He saw the evilness in me and he wanted to bring that out in "Begum Jaan"," he says.

Vidya Balan starrer Begum Jaan is expected to collect Rs. 4.70 crores* on its very first day. Flaunting her badass personality and no-fear attitude, Begum Jaan dares the law enforcers to bring down her establishment.

For all practical purposes then, it is Chunky's restrained performance that you are probably going to remember because Vidya Balan, after all, can not go wrong. Not that Pakistan has not allowed films to be made on the Partition by Pakistani filmmakers, the last one possibly Manto (2015) by Sarmad Sultan. The movie is a Hindi remake of Bengali film Rajkahini written and directed by Srijit as well. "At the back of my mind I thought I would not get the film", Chunky told PTI.

Point to be noted that Holi comes in the month of August in the special case of "Begum Jaan". Vidya looked gorgeous in a blue and black sari and completed her look with some metallic jewelry and flowing hair.

Coming to the actors now, to begin with, Vidya Balan, in an attempt to earn the next National award, overplayed in few scenes but obviously she knows how to cheat and turn an average scene into gold. She steals the show with her brilliance performance. Dialogues are undoubtedly the USP of this film. The only time she opens her mouth is to scream when Vidya hits her hard.
